No matter where you live, you always want to make sure you, your family, your house, and your possessions will be protected. There are several ways you can work to Protect Your Home from being a target for burglaries. These don't have to be very expensive, some stuff you might not need to buy anything extra to Protect Your Home.One thing you can do is trim bushes, trees and shrubs. You will want to trim bushes and shrubs that could be a potential hiding place for intruders. Make sure that you can see doors, entry ways, and windows, and also that you know your neighbors can see them as well. Without as many convenient hiding places, thieves are less likely to wait behind a bush for you to finally leave for date night, or for work, seeing as that when most home burglaries happen while the person is at work.
Something else you can do is put a few lights on timers so they turn on in the evenings. This can be very useful if you are going out of town, if you also can hook it up to a radio or TV, the effect is even better. Having certain electronics turn on at different times makes it look like someone is home, making burglars stay away. Most intruders prefer not to deal with the people who are home so it can help prevent your house from being broken into.
Try not to leave empty boxes outside for the trash to be picked up. This is a very common problem around the holidays. If you get a new flat screen TV, and just set the box out with the trash, it's almost an invitation for a home invasion. When you set out boxes like that, it shows that you do have something nice that they may want. If you can, when you throw out boxes like that, try to break them down and put them in a trash can, or recycle bin. I normally try to save them so if I move I don't have to get new boxes. The point is, by leaving certain trash out, you draw more attention to you and your home.
Go buy a motion sensor light. These lights are activated when something moves in front or around it. Yes, this might mean you might catch the neighborhood cat coming into your yard, but it can also help deter potential intruders. A motion sensor light will startle the intruders, and also lets you and neighbors know something is going on. If you want to get even fancier, you could get a motion sensor light and camera, then you will know exactly what passed in front of your house.
If you happen to be a dog person, you are in luck. Dogs that bark can help scare off intruders. If the dog sounds like it is a big dog, or if it sounds like there are several dogs, the intruder will be less likely to enter because they don't want to deal with a dog. So this is just a perk to having the wonderful family pet, we will love them no matter who they bark at.
Doing some, if not all of these things can help Protect Your Home and keep it from being a target for burglars. These can be very inexpensive, but of course with anything, you can get really high-tech or fancy, and get the expensive stuff that can be just as affective. Always try to make your home look well lived in, if on vacation, stop papers and mail from being delivered, have lights turn on and off, even ask someone to mow your yard for you.

What is the diff between a lien and a pre-nup to protect your home before marriage ? and is a Lien easier ?
If i just want to protect my home, which i purchased before marriage (about 2 years before), I've heard you can just put a lien on your home, in which case your significant other does not even have to sign anything or know about it (of course i will tell my partner because of morality and trust). but just in case something does go wrong, I want to be protected. I heard that if you're just worried about the home you purchased and don't really have any equity otherwise, you can put some sort of a lien on your property/house so that your significant other cannot take it should I get divorced.
Is this true and if so, what exactly would a lien for marriage reasons entail? or does someone have an explanation for this? I know what a lien is when you don't pay the mortgage and your loan originator puts a lien on the property, but what is a lien to protect investment ?
FYI, I live in NJ. Have a full time job, with benefits and 401k. All i'm really interested in protecting is the house because the house was paid in full due to inheritance .
